A transceiver consists of a receiver and a transmitter. The architecture and key characteristics of different types of receivers and transmitters are covered in this chapter, helping the designer to choose the optimum for a specific application.
The main function of a receiver is the demodulation of a wanted signal in the presence of undesired interferers and noise. Due to the strong attenuation during air transmission, the RF signal has to be amplified and recovered. Taking into account scenarios with varying attenuation, a wide dynamic range is required for the detection of signals with high data-rates.
